“Girl, you look so worn out and tired,” Yasmin stated on the facetime call with Izara. “When was the last time you got some rest?”

“It’s been a while since I did that, friend. Since J moved down here back in August, I’ve been going nonstop, for real,” she informed her with a sigh. “I’ve been working at the doctor’s office during the week and the club on the weekends so I can have enough money to pay my bills and spoil my god twins when they get here.” Izara smiled. “I know you didn’t ask me to be the god mom yet but I’m speaking it into existence.” She laughed and so did Yasmin.

“Now you already know that you’re the godmother, Izzy. I already got you a shirt made and everything. I was gonna surprise you with it when they were born.” Her bestie smiled.

“Aww, Yas. Don’t make me cry in this break room.” Izara fanned her eyes. “Since I told you that I helped the boys try to find LaKeita, I felt like things have been a lil’ off between us. I wanted to talk to you about this, but I didn’t know how. I guess I didn’t wanna face the possibility of us not being friends anymore.”

“I’m not gonna lie. I was upset with you when you told me that. Only because there was a small part of me that believed that me and Keita could move past this. She’s my sister and I didn’t wanna lose her, but when she sent me that remorseless letter and the box of baby clothes, I decided to forgive her for myself and move on,” she expressed with sincerity. “I don’t need someone like that in my life. You’ve been more of a sister to me than she has. So, I’m really not missing nothing.” Yasmin grinned.

“C’mon now. You know I’m too G to be crying and you’re tryna break me down, girl.” Izara fought back tears. “Let me get off this phone so I can get back to work. I’ll call you later on and sit yo’ ass down somewhere.”

“Hush yo’ face. They said walking helps with the labor process and I’m ready to have these babies. After the doctor told me that there’s a possibility that they could be born a lil’ early at my appointment yesterday, I’m doing my part to make that happen.”

Laughing at her friend, they said their goodbyes before she ended the call. As she grabbed a napkin from the holder, Izara wiped her eyes and finished eating the salmon salad she ordered from a nearby restaurant with a smile on her face. The conversation she had eased her mind and cleared the uncertainty in her heart that had been there for months. Although they spent the holidays together and they had plenty of conversations since then, they never discussed her role in the plan to kill LaKeita. Izara had no regrets for what she’d done because she meant what she said about protecting her. Yet, she felt like she’d crossed the line.
